The painting depicts an inner state in which a transparent barrier has formed between a person and the light. The figure seems enclosed in glass. Rain has frozen and flowers have turned to concrete. Everything appears motionless, yet the confinement is not absolute: glass can break, and a way out exists behind the figure, although they cannot yet see it. Being frozen distorts the field of vision. The safety that once offered protection has become a boundary. Yet the painting speaks of more than confinement. Frozen ground becomes soil in which to put down roots — not in other people or the structures that sustain them, but in one’s own existence. Liberation begins when the transparent barrier becomes visible.
